Daily Reading: 2 Corinthians 10-13

2 Corinthians 13:11

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Nowhere in Scripture is there a better reminder for churches as to the manner in which they should live than this one verse. It is Paul’s final admonition to the church in Corinth. In his farewell words there are four gems of great value that we would be wise to adopt.

One: Be Perfect. Too often those in churches relax, and even excel, in their imperfection, but the goal is not to settle for imperfection, the goal is to be perfect. Jesus said in Matthew 5:48: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Many try to explain this away…to their own peril. While it is, of course, unobtainable, it is still supposed to be our goal. For most golfers, the reality of a score of par after eighteen holes is unobtainable, but they still try to make par on every hole.

Two: Be of good comfort. Both receive comfort and extend comfort. The idea of making others comfortable is foreign to most people. Comforted yes, making others comforted, not so much. I trust you are comforted today and every day.

Three: Be of one mind. This one mind is the mind of Christ…But we have the mind of Christ. (I Corinthians 2:16) This is a decision that needs to be made by every child of God. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (Philippians 2:5).

Four: Live in peace. This is to live absent of conflict, struggle, hatred, and the like.

Notice the benefit of acquiring these four qualities of life: and the God of love and peace shall be with you. Talk about an outcome-based initiative. The outcome is so much greater than the sum of its parts, but this is the way of the Lord. He always gives more than He requires.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
