Random Thoughts of a Spiritual Nature II
I Kings 9:26
And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom.
When I think of a navy, I think about a more recent creation. But the Word of God states that Solomon made a navy way back yonder. This once again brings to light the truth of that which has been, will be, and that which is done, has been done, and that, …there is no new thing under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9
Sometimes we think that history does not go back any further than several hundred years ago, especially those of us who are citizens of the United States, which in actuality is a very young nation in comparison to others. Our old world has many stories of great events, civilizations, turmoil, upheaval, victories, and defeats over its six thousand years or so of recorded history. There were civilizations which were very developed prior to our own, whose history of their rise and fall can be very beneficial to our own. If we would only learn from them, we would be wise indeed.
Someone said, “If we don’t learn from history we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes in the future.” The next time you are tempted to think that history is young, remember, thousands of years before us there was already a navy.
