Daily Reading: Titus 1-3, Philemon 1

Titus 1:2

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus is a personal letter from the Apostle Paul to Titus giving him direction concerning his watch care over the churches in Crete. In its opening sentence an amazing and oftentimes overlooked statement is made. He clearly states that…God cannot lie. I can, you can, every person can, and we do. Which is scary because God’s Word states clearly in Revelation 21:8 that all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire. This once again proves that all people are sinners needing a Savior.

But back to the point. …God, that cannot lie. Meaning when He states something it will come to pass. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Luke 12:20 And, when Jesus said in John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. He confirmed that God’s Word is truth because, in part, God cannot lie.

In fact according to Proverbs 6 where it lists the six things that God hates; one is a lying tongue (Proverbs 6:17). We as His children should work diligently to be as our Father is, honest.

In Philemon you will read one of the most brilliant letters ever written. It is a letter from Paul to Philemon concerning one of the Apostle Paul’s converts, Onesimus. In one part of this letter Paul writes in verse 19: I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. He states clearly that if Onesimus owes Philemon anything that he, Paul, would repay it. Then he subtilty adds that Philemon owes Paul as much, if not more, than Onesimus owes Philemon. …I do not say… then he says it. Checkmate! This is called diplomacy and there is far too little of it today.

Enjoy these two short books they are both powerful!

So, until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
