Daily Reading: Isaiah 49-53

Isaiah 53:1

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

The age-old question still echoes through the seasons of time. Who hath believed our report? On occasion every Bible believing preacher has asked this question in some form or another. The entire book of Isaiah is the report. The report about Christ the coming Messiah, although that was not a name that was revealed, but the Man was. The coming Christ, the Son of God, Emmanuel, known today by His name the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who believes the report? The modernist rejects it, the religionists ignore it, the humanists fight against it, yet the saved receive it, accept it, champion it, and believe it. While there are many man made interpretations about Isaiah’s chapter 53, in light of the complete cannon of Scripture traditional scholars have attributed it to a prophecy about the Lord Jesus. This interpretation is strengthened by numerous verses in the gospels.

The Report. The report is the message. It is the record. It is the prophecy. It is the reality. It is the sinner’s only hope and the saint’s greatest comfort. The Report. As you read it, do so with an eye toward Christ. He and He alone fulfills all of its requirements. It was He that came to earth without the benefit of any reputation; it was He that was despised and rejected. He is the One from whom individuals still attempt to hide their face; it was He that carried our sorrows and bore our griefs; it was He and He alone that was wounded for our transgressions, on and on it goes. Every verse speaks of Him.

The fourfold mission of Christ is highlighted in this mountain peak chapter of the Bible. Burdenbearer, vs. 4; Saviour, vs. 5; Sinbearer, vs. 6; Intercessor, vs. 12, it says it all, for it is the Report.

In the first five words of this Chapter Isaiah the prophet of old asks you personally: Who hath believed our report? Have you? Do you? Will you? The report is true. But you make the difference in the report being believed or rejected. Only you…for you. Each and every person has it within their power to believe the report or reject it. You cannot believe it for me, nor can I believe it for you. This is the Report. Choose well.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
