Daily Reading: Isaiah 45-48

Isaiah 48:12

Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.

This one is going to be good! Can’t wait. Here it is…

For the third time Isaiah uses the phrase I am the first, I also am the last. Yeah, this quote, or wording very similar, is found in Isaiah 41:4, 44:6 and 48:12. A threefold cord is not quickly broken as Solomon said in the book of Ecclesiastes. This truth of God’s Word will never be broken. The Lord God of Heaven, the Lord of Host, God, The Father, He is known by many names and has many qualities; one that is second to none is that He is the First and He is the Last. Wonderful, Amen, Hallelujah, and Praise the Lord! But wait!!!

Not only does the book of Isaiah use this phrase about the First and the Last, another book does as well. Yeah, the book of Revelation. The book that reveals Christ also uses this phrase three times. Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 2:8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; and Revelation 22:13 (the very last chapter of the Bible) says; I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Revelation is a book about Christ and His second coming. Isaiah is a book about Christ and His first coming.

Someone may say to this; “Ok, I get it, big deal.” Yes, it is a big deal! It is the biggest of the big deals. There are big deals made in the Bible but none any bigger than this! Consider one example of why this is such a big deal. Consider the promise of Isaiah 46:4. And even to your old age I am he, and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

Can you grasp that? The One who is the first and the last, the ever living one, promises to carry you, and deliver you even in and unto your oldest of ages and for all the ages. This One that Isaiah speaks of is the same One that we trust in today. The Lord Jesus Christ. Let it be said again; Wonderful, Amen, Hallelujah, and Praise the Lord!

This is good; but tomorrow! Wow…just wait…if you can.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
