Rēad to Read …Again
Daily Reading: Isaiah 31-35
Isaiah 31:1
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
War horses, strong horsemen, and chariots of iron. These are what Egypt could offer. These are the things that the natural person thought could make them safe. Just like when Jacob sent his sons to Egypt to buy bread in the time of famine. Israel is tempted to go to Egypt to buy safety in their land. That is one hand.
On the other hand, there is the Holy One of Israel, the Lord.
In many ways Egypt pictures the world system with all its military might and financial power. Individually each person will decide, sooner or later, where they will put their trust: in Egypt, or in the Lord God? In every decision big or small one or the other will be trusted.
History proves that. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Psalm 118:8-9
King David chose. For he wrote: Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7
He chose well. As all do that simply put their trust in Him for protection and provision. As the old saying goes, “Pray as if it is all up to God, but work as if it is all up to you.” For example, God would have given Israel the promised land forty years sooner, but they chose not to do their part which was to trust Him and go up and possess it.
Again, sooner or later each person must choose. Egypt or God.
