Rēad to Read …Again

Daily Reading: Isaiah 23-27

Isaiah 25:1

O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

For the past ten chapters of Isaiah the prophet has mainly been relating his burden for various foreign nations. In chapters 24-27 a different message is given. It is a message to the whole earth. Specifically, Isaiah pronounces the coming day of the Lord. This message speaks of worldwide apostasy, the time of great tribulation, up and into the Kingdom age which is the Millennial reign of Christ.

For all this God has given to us His message. Just one aspect of this prophecy is notable to all the earth. In chapter 27:1 the world is promised: In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. Leviathan here pictures Satan. The promise is that the Lord will end him on that day. What a world it would be without the influence of the serpent. We can only imagine!

To this writer, this portion of Isaiah is unmatched in its concentrated presentation of the work of the Lord Jesus Christ in that day. For all this, and all the other tremendous promises of God to His people we should always lend ourselves to the actions in today’s verse.

Exalt Him.

Praise His name.

For He has and will do wonderful things.

His counsels of old are faithful.

His counsels of old are true.

These are five things that every child of God should involve themselves in on a daily basis. When things look dark. When defeat is raising its false ugly head. When it seems that there is no hope. When all around us people fall. When sorrows and persecutions come. Remember Him. Exalt Him. Praise Him. For He will do wonderful things in the coming days. His Word is faithful. His Word is true. It is settled in heaven and proclaimed on earth. Let Him rule in our hearts, minds, souls, and actions. Give Him our reins by letting go and letting God. For in that day, we will sing, just as Isaiah prophesied in 26:1, In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.

Cry now perhaps, but those tears will be wiped away. Hurt now, possibly, but healing is in His wings: He will make us whole. For in that day our eyes will see Him and witness His great acts that have been promised to us throughout the Bible. The last verse of this section states it better than any human writer could. Isaiah 27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

We may not understand it all now, but then we will. Yes, then we will!
