The Bible Edge
Everyone needs an Edge, Believers can have a Bible Edge
Psalm 73:1-2
Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. But as for me, my feet were almost gone: my steps had well nigh slipped.
Sometimes life seems to get the better of you. The word “seems” is used because if you are in Christ, that is just what it is, it just seems that way. Circumstances can get you down as they did this to the psalmist. If you read the balance of this chapter, you will see that he had many areas in which he felt the ungodly were superior. That is until verse 17. Until I went into the sanctuary of God: then understood I their end. By going to the place of worship, the one who penned this song came to see things from a different perspective.
Going to church has many benefits; one of those is to help believers in Christ keep the proper perspective about this life. Think about it, where else on earth has God set forth the command to preach and teach the whole counsel of the Word of God than in His churches? Government is not given this responsibility, homes are charged with training children and the wise parent will instruct their child in the Lord, but the local church is the one institution on earth that God established to carry out His great commission. Through that commission churches have historically preached with an eye toward the salvation of the lost, baptizing of new converts, and instructing believers in the entirety of the Bible.
Next time you feel under the circumstances of life, feel like the psalmist did in the above verses, or feel like serving God has brought no good benefit in your life, cause yourself to go to your church. You’ll probably come home with a different perspective.
