The Year of our Lord, Jesus Christ

Matthew 28:18

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Speaking to His disciples Jesus made the boldest of bold statements. Every other bold statement is pale in comparison to this statement. Years ago, a famous football coach boldly said, “We will win the game” or something to that affect and the world went crazy. But this statement Jesus made was more bold, infinitely more bold. He said: All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

This is a stand-alone statement. Yes, the Lord used this statement as a springboard to support the Great Commission that He was about to give, but make no doubt, it is a statement that proceeded any command He gave. All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Therefore, forgive as you are forgiven (Eph. 4:2). All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Therefore, love as I have loved you (John 15:12). All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Therefore, give and it shall be given unto you (Luke 6:38).

If this one statement of the Lord Jesus were believed, it would change everything. He has all power! Go ye therefore… That is the command that Jesus ties to this bold statement. In His All power… go ye. Go in His power. Make no doubt, He has all power. Notwithstanding the Great Commission, don’t overlook the truth of this one thing.

He has All power!

In Romans 13:1 we read …For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Thank the Lord God in Heaven and Earth that He has all power. This is true, eternally true. But what does it mean to us? It means that whatever power is needed He is the source. Tap into Him through faith and obedience to His will and the power that is needed to do whatever needs to be done can be found. The churches of Macedonia did this, they tapped into the Lord’s power. Leading the Holy Spirit to inspire Paul to write in II Corinthians 8:3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; May the churches and believers of this generation be so bold as to do the same. After all Jesus said: All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore…

Until next time,
