Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Revelation 17:13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
Isn’t it fitting that the very last verse in the Bible containing the word mind is once again that often repeated phrase “one mind”? This is the seventh usage of this phrase, one in the Old Testament, and six in the New Testament. Four other times the phrase “same mind” is used in the New Testament. Evidently our Father in Heaven desires that His children be in unity by having oneness of mind. This occurrence in Revelation is different however as this is the only time the phrase is used concerning the enemies of God. This reference concerns the ten kings that will receive power after spending one hour with the great beast of Revelation. These kings will give their strength to the beast and will make war on the Lamb of God. They will have one mind.
Perhaps the most lopsided football game ever played was Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. the Cumberland College Bulldogs in 1916 (the Yellow Jackets never have liked Bulldogs). Tech won the game 222 – 0. Before the year began Cumberland had canceled its football program but was contractually obligated to play Tech or pay a huge fine. Cumberland put together a team of fourteen students to play the powerhouse Yellow Jackets. Tech was of one mind. They knew the plays, knew what to do on defense, and knew that earlier in the year Cumberland had embarrassed Tech’s baseball team by slaughtering them 22-0, they were motivated by unity. Cumberland’s football team was not single minded. They had only one week of practice, no conditioning, no long-term goal, and they just wanted to survive.
This thing of being of “one mind” is powerful. Strive for this worthy goal in your home, church, place of work, even in recreation and great victory will follow. Not only is being of “one mind” beneficial in everyday life, but it is also a command of God.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
