Daily Reading: II Kings 18-19
II Kings 18:1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
Hoshea was king of Israel, the northern kingdom of ten tribes. Hezekiah was the king of Judah, the southern kingdom of two tribes. There will be other kings of Israel, but none that are considered strong and independent, not like those written about heretofore. It has been just a little over 200 years since Solomon died. Israel's best days are behind her. From here, the nation will go into that which is called the "Babylonian Captivity." The next 180 years or so of Israel will be difficult at best. There will be Jews that will be born, live and die only knowing being in bondage to Gentile powers.
Which brings us into a thought. Our nation is quickly moving into a time that has been and will be called the "Post Church era", or the "Post truth era." You mark it down. There is a change coming, or so we are told. But, more importantly, know this. Neither of these monikers are accurate. The church era will continue on until God in Heaven says it is over and not before. Likewise, there is no such thing as post truth. Truth is truth is truth forever is truth. Just because some choose to reject it, ignore it, try to change it, rebel against it, or corrupt it, it is still there. God's Word is truth! It is settled forever in Heaven. Not believing it does not make it less true. People will believe a lie and reject the truth, but the truth is still true, and the lie is still a lie.
Why did all this befall Israel. Because they rejected Him, worshipped idols, polluted the sacrifices, ignored His prophets, and wanted to be like the "ites" of the land. As my mom used to say to me just before her wrath would fall, "A word to the wise should be sufficient." May we be wise.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
