The Year of our Lord, Jesus Christ
Revelation 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
When Jesus met with the apostle John on the Lord’s Day on the Island of Patmos, He made an amazing statement. One which demands more than a passing glance. His first words to John, that are recorded, were; I am… Thus began a sentence that even a month’s worth of full grown sized super-sized messages could not exhaust its entire truth. The first two words set the tone, the last two, they set the scope. I am…the Almighty. Between these two statements are great truths that serve to instruct, encourage, and enforce all that Jesus has been, is, and will be. But make no doubt the first two words and the last two words combined make up quite a statement.
They mean that Jesus said that He is the Almighty. This is not the first time that the Lord indicated such power. In Matthew 28:18 He stated …All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. That is Almighty. In Hebrews 1:3 it is said; …upholding all things by the word of his power. That is Almighty. When Paul said: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13) he testified to Him being Almighty.
In the book of Revelation the word Almighty is used eight times. Each one except for today’s verse include the identifying words of Lord and God. Only the Lord God is Almighty. This proves once again that when Jesus walked on the earth, God walked on the earth. When Jesus hungered, God hungered. When Jesus spoke, God was speaking. When Jesus bled it was God bleeding. When Jesus was crucified, it was God on earth being crucified. Yes, Jesus was every bit as much God as He was man.
Today, He is still Almighty. He was Almighty on the day of creation, during the life of Moses, Abraham, the prophets, the judges, the kings. He was Almighty in the lion’s den with Daniel, in the whale’s belly with Jonah, and in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He will be Almighty when He returns on that white horse to fight the enemies of God’s people with the sword that proceeds out of His mouth, which is the Word of God. When He rules the world for a millennium, He will be Almighty. For all eternity future He will be Almighty. Notwithstanding the past and the future, today He is also Almighty!
So, what do you need today? He is Almighty. Ask Him, it may just be that He will demonstrate His Almighty power to you, and once He does, your life will never be the same. For you will know that He is exactly who He says He is. He is the Lord God Almighty!
Until next time,
